Following grading, our next game got off to a bit of a bumpy start.

We missed several shots in a row, either bouncing off the bar or just skimming past outside the goal mouth.

Then the opposition scored three in quick succession and our chaps were put off balance...

At half time it was 4-1 to them...

Oops...

A bumpy first half resulted in a wee talk from coach Willie...

Back to basics - get the ball or get beaten!
Right - Tairan wants that ball!
Good hungry spirit.
Go Tai, go!

Shoot, Tai, shoot!

Corey demonstrates the classic dribble and sidestep thing...
The result typically looks something like this -
Left - sometimes you need the numbers to beat them - work together guys, back each other up...
Right - and even if you have space and can go like the wind, it's good to have a mate right there behind you for support. As well as someone to cross to when needed...
      Shoot, Isaac, shoot!
Sometimes when you get on a roll, the opposition can get a bit, er, "resourceful".
Here John gets tripped up.

John and Joe are gonna take it to 'em.

Corners - need to place that kick nicely to our guys - who need to position themselves to receive it too of course! No point letting the other guys get it...

Go for it John!

And when defending against a corner kick, guard that goal, then hoof the ball right the heck away from there! Whatever you do, DON'T let it turn into a contest for the ball down in our goal mouth. Too dangerous!

Block it, then a BIG kick out of there!
Fast!

Liam and Alec putting on a burst while on defense. Soccer is all about giving it everything for a short burst when it counts, whether defending or attacking.
Cruising is a no-no!

Right - Alistair puts in one of those nice big goal kicks of his. Golden rule when goal kicking: NEVER pass it to one of your mates if they call for it from within your half! Else we will find ourselves defending straight away, instead of attacking!

Just look for a space in the opposition half and boot it right up there. It's our forwards' job to sprint up-field to get possession of the ball when it lands.

Boot it goalie!

They played a brilliant 2nd half, scoring three and only conceding one more.

In the end we lost by one (5-4) but our team made a brilliant come-back in that 2nd half, and did us all proud.

Go Rockets!
